Meet Our Doctors

DeAnn Kumm, DVM
Jessica Spake, DVM

Dr. DeAnn Kumm was born and raised in Nebraska.  She received her Associate of Science degree from Northeast Community College in 1997 and her Bachelor of Science in Veterinary Science from the University of Nebraska – Lincoln in 1999 and her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from Mississippi State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 2003.  Dr. Kumm has been a part of the community since 2004 at the Animal Emergency Clinic.  Dr. Kumm has a special interest in toxicology, exotic animal care, and emergency medicine.  She is an active member in a variety of professional associations including, but not limited to IVMA, AVMA, and IVECCS.  She is also on the board of a local college for the veterinary nursing program.  She is married and has six beautiful children, 5 dogs, 3 cats, multiple exotic pets, chickens, 3 pot bellied pigs, goats and horses.  Dr. Kumm is an active member of her church and children’s school.  She enjoys time with family, helping with rodeos, gardening, and working on her farm.

 

Dr. Jessica Spake was born in Florida and raised in North Carolina. She earned her Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in Animal Science from North Carolina State University. She then moved to Indiana to attend Purdue University where she earned her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine in 2015. Dr. Spake moved to the Michiana area after graduating from Purdue and worked in a general practice for 4 years. She started working at the Animal Emergency Clinic in 2019 .  Dr. Spake is Low Stress Handling® Certified - Silver, has completed three levels of Fear Free training, and is a member is the American Veterinary Society of Animal Behavior. She is passionate about making veterinary care as low stress as possible, including in the emergency setting.  Outside of work, Dr. Spake enjoys spending time with her husband and two children. In her free time she enjoys activities including crocheting, sewing, and painting.
